Beginning September 10, 2020 Grant Public Library opened to public access with the following limits:

 

ALL PATRONS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO USE THE LIBRARY SERVICES CURBSIDE WHENEVER POSSIBLE

 

PATRONS MUST:

    • Wear a FACE COVERING at all times while in the building

    • Use HAND SANITIZER immediately upon entering the building

    • Call 256-728-5128 before entering to verify library is not at capacity

 

LIMITS TO LIBRARY USE

    • Only 1 person/family allowed in a room at any given time. This does not include library staff.

    • If the library is at capacity, then patrons must wait outside for others to leave before being allowed in the building

    • Patrons may stay in the library for no more than 30 minutes

 

LIBRARY HOURS

    • Open for elderly and/or immunocompromised ONLY

      • Tuesday - Saturday 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

    • Open to the general public

      • Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday  11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

      • Wednesday and Saturday 11 a.m. until noon

 

PUBLIC SAFETY IS IMPORTANT

  • No public restrooms will be available for use

  • No story time at this time.

  • The library uses the quarantine method of sanitization for all circulated library materials. We ask that patrons DO NOT use disinfectant wipes or spray on library materials as this can cause significant damage. If it is found that library materials have been damaged while in your possession, then you will be held responsible for the cost of replacement of said materials.

  • All returned items will be checked in immediately upon return and placed in quarantine for 5 days before being returned to circulation.

    • Therefore, a book may show as available for checkout in the computer, but may be unavailable for checkout due to being in quarantine.

    • You may still place the item on hold in your account for check out once cleared from quarantine.

    • You will be notified via email when the item(s) are available for check out.

    • All items not picked up in 7 days will be removed from hold and returned to circulation.

 

POLICY REGARDING COMPUTER USE, PRINTING, COPIES, AND FAXING

    • ONLY 1 computer will be available for use

    • As always, you must have a library card in good standing (no fees or overdue books) in order to use the computer.

    • Patrons may stay on the computer no more than 30 minutes

    • Appointments are strongly recommended for computer use. 

      • Call (256) 728-5128 to schedule an appointment. 

      • Appointments cannot be scheduled more than 5 days in advance.

      • If a patron does not arrive on time for scheduled appointment, then appointment is forfeited. 

    • If a patron does not have an appointment, and the computer is in use, then patron must wait outside until computer is available. 

    • In order to maintain social distancing, no personal assistance can be provided by library staff for computer use. 

    • Since the copier/fax machine cannot be disassembled for sanitization of all possibly contaminated parts; patrons understand that these services are provided “at your own risk”

PATRON MUST HAVE EXACT CHANGE FOR ALL FEES

 

Printing and copies

  $0.25 per page for black & white

  $0.30 per page for color copies

 

Faxing

  $1.00 per fax number

BOOK DONATION GUIDELINES

 

The Grant Public Library accepts:

  • New or gently used hardcover and paperback books

  • Media materials (DVD, CD audiobooks) in good condition

 

The Library CAN NOT USE the following materials:

  • Cassette tapes

  • VHS tapes

  • Encyclopedias

  • Textbooks

  • Dictionaries

  • Books that show damage, including highlighting and/or handwriting, water damage, mold, dust, and animal damage

  • Books that smell strongly of cigarette smoke or pets

 

Donations are Tax Deductible

  • At your request, Library staff will provide you with a letter of receipt that you may fill out for tax purposes. 


Bringing Donations to the Library

  • The Library accepts donations only when the library is open

  • PLEASE, DO NOT PLACE DONATIONS IN THE BOOK RETURN OR BESIDE THE ENTRANCE.

  • Please bring your donations in small boxes or bags that can be easily carried. (Due to OSHA regulations, staff are not allowed to lift heavy boxes.)

  • Bring donated items in boxes/bins/bags you do not want returned

 

What does the Grant Public Library do with donations?

  • All donations are greatly appreciated. The library adds donated items to the collection, sells them in the library book sale room, donates them to other nonprofit agencies, or recycles them. 

  • The money raised through sales and cash donations helps to fund programs and/or purchase of books and other materials.

 

What can I do with materials the library cannot accept?

  • Most thrift stores accept books and other materials as donations.

  • Damaged books can be recycled as mixed paper.​​

Directions to the recycling collection site located at the District 2 County Shop:

  • From the library proceed along 6th Street West (away from Main Street)

  • Take the first right onto 1st Avenue West

  • The collection site is on the left. Place books in the paper recycling bins.
